A message from the Host:
2 Corinthians 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
What does that verse really mean? What should we take from it? Do we really believe what it says?
In today's wayward church, we may think this means to 'name and claim' your blessing. A new car, more money, or some other self-centered thing. As if God is the bellboy and we are the patron staying at the hotel. Throw God a dollar bill, get what we want, and have a good day.
However, walking by faith is not trusting to get what you want from God. It’s depending on Him even when you do not understand. It's walking in a dark tunnel where you can't see a pinprick of light. It's taking one agonizing foot forward inch by inch.
For one woman, walking by faith and not by sight is more than just a nice Bible verse, it's the thread of her being. Like Job, she has been bombarded with calamity after calamity from the time she was in her mother's womb. Financial ruin, loss of relationships, and the loss of physical health, she is truly Job for us...but unlike Job we don't know if it's going to end well at all. So she is walking by faith, not by sight.
This episode is more than just about showcasing a book; it's about experiencing the words of someone who is hanging on by the scratch marks her nails left behind. "This is no ordinary book about personal loss, crisis, physical illness, and shattered ambitions. The message here runs much deeper. What I discovered— being mirrored back to me—were my own responses to life’s disappointments. Somewhere, Elizabeth disappeared and I saw myself struggling with personal issues that needed fixing. Many were issues I did not know were there. At that point, I realized the book had a “surface” message and a deeper, heart message. As you read, allow the book to read you.
Let Elizabeth’s cries of the heart and spirit
uncover what is sequestered in your own heart. Let Elizabeth’s words lead you on a journey beyond her illness and life tragedies to its conclusion— where you will emerge challenged and even strangely comforted by your own life struggles, knowing that you too can have access to this pure faith, realize the bigger purpose for your life, and “come forth as gold!"
- Pastor Charles Carrin
Most books are written after an individual has come through a major life trial. The message is often one of 'hindsight' perspective of how one made it through even the thoughest of life's tragedies.
Elizabeth Chalker wrote "Hanging On by the Scratch Marks My Nails Left Behind: Raw Faith" while still in suffering with serious physical illness and amidst deep life trials. She is still in the fire to this day.
No matter where you are on your life's journey, this book will bring light, grace, love, strength and blessing to your life. It will empower you to not merely be a survivor, this book will help you to live in Raw Faith and be an overcomer!
